Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage (CNI)
If you require a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage (CNI), you can apply for the certificate at the Australian Consulate-General. You will need to present the following documents when you apply for the certificate:
• An original completed CNI application form.
You must fill in the form in full and have your signature on the form witnessed by a person in one of the designated categories.
This form may also be completed when you present at the Consulate and your signature will be witnessed by a consular officer.
• Your current Australian passport.
• Your fiance(e)'s original Chinese I.D. Card or Foreign Passport
• If you have previously been married, we require you to present the original divorce certificate (decree absolute) for each previous marriage.
• If your fiance(e) has previously been married, we also require to sight the original divorce certificate for each previous marriage.
• If your previous spouse is deceased, we need to sight the original death certificate (the same applies for if your fiance(e)'s previous spouse is deceased).
• The application fee, detailed below.
The CNI can normally be issued on the same day as lodgment.
Application Fees
The cost of issuing a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage is the CNI fee, plus an additional signature witnessing fee if a Consular Officer witnesses your signature on the application form.
Fees are payable in Chinese RMB Cash ONLY.
Fees are revised on a weekly basis so applicants should check to ensure the current fees.
