About the Australian Consulate-General Shanghai, China
Head of Post
Tom Connor has been Australia’s Consul-General in Shanghai since July 2008. Prior to this assignment he was Assistant Secretary of the North East Asia Branch of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, responsible for Australia’s relations with Japan, the ROK and the DPRK, from May 2006 to June 2008. He was the speechwriter to both Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Australia’s Minister for Trade before a posting as Political Counsellor at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo from June 2003 to May 2006. He entered the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in February 1984 and previously served as Political Counsellor at the Australian Embassy in Beijing (1993-97) and Consul at the Australian Consulate-General in Shanghai (1988-90). He was also Director of the China Section (1997-98) and Director of the Australia-Korea Foundation (1991-92).
Mr Connor holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degrees from the Australian National University, a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University and a Master of Laws (International Law) from the Australian National University. He was admitted as Barrister of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Mr Connor speaks Chinese (Mandarin) and Japanese. He is married with two sons.

Consulate business hours are 8:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday.
Business Hours for passport applications are between 9:00 - 12:00, 13:30 - 15:00 Monday to Friday.
Notarial services are available between 15:00 -16:00 Monday to Friday.
